Walk with me for a minute…

So.. way before the bright lights of the arenas, before the packed high school gyms, and tournament weekends there's always a little room.

A kid with all the hope in the world and no idea what's ahead. A parent holding their baby for the first time, having no clue they could ever love this hard. We have all had one, right?. The small, quiet moment before the journey that's about to change everything.

A few years ago, mine started in a little room inside a big basketball gym. All the hope in the world for the road ahead with my son, and no idea where it would take us.

This is the story of that road, and of what I found there.

They walk in small, excited, unequipped for what this world is about to ask of them. I've spent years in those rooms since, and I've seen all of it. Career-ending injuries. Dreams coming to life. Tears from boys who never let anyone see them cry. Confidence built, and confidence shattered.

It's breathtaking and it's brutal, oftentimes all within the same game and no one walks in ready.

This book is what I've carried back out. For the parents who will never get to stand in those rooms, and for the kids about to walk into them. So that when the fire comes, and it will, they don't get consumed by it.

They rise from it.

Because the greatest things really do start in little rooms. It just helps when someone walks in with you first.
